Golf Shoe Sizing

How to Measure Your Feet:

Your feet and shoe size can change over time. We want you to have the best fit and comfort available for your golf shoes. Follow these simple directions to find your proper golf shoe size. You will need a piece of blank paper, a pencil and a ruler.

  1. Place the paper on a hard floor.
  2. Stand on the paper wearing a pair of your favorite golf socks.
  3. Mark with the pencil at the end of your heel. Be sure to hold the pencil straight up and down.
  4. Make another mark at the tip of your longest toe.
  5. Next, make marks at both sides of your foot at the widest part.
  6. Measure your other foot using the same method.
  7. Use the ruler to measure the distance from heel to toe marks, and the distance between the marks for the widest part of your foot.
  8. To find your size, use the comparison tables below. For example, if you are a man using the U.S. size chart, and your heel to toe distance is 11 inches, your shoe size is 11. Find your width measurement to determine the shoe width.
  9. If your measurements fall between two sizes, or if one foot is larger than the other, always use the larger size.

Now that you have your measurements, refer to the attached charts:

Golf Spikes and Spikeless Shoes

Spikes were created to improve a golfer's traction on wet or sloped grassy surfaces. Golf Shoes are available with three different types of soles: traditional spikes, alternative (soft) spikes, and spikeless golf shoes.

Traditional golf spikes are metal or very hard ceramic tips, and beginning in 1994 have been banned from most US golf courses. Many golf shoe manufacturers no longer offer traditional hard golf spikes.

Alternative, or "soft" spikes are the most common golf shoes on the market. Alternative spike manufacturer SoftSpikes™ has a 70% market share. In 1997 SoftSpikes™ formed a strategic alliance with FootJoy™, and the FastTwist™ system was introduced in 1999. Since 2001, SoftSpike's Black Widow golf spikes are the leading golf spike on the US tour.

Spikeless golf shoes are also gaining in popularity, as new design technology and materials make it possible to build a stable, high-traction sole for golf course wear.

While respective manufacturers have done special research and testing to enhance their respective golf products all have tried to improve spikeless golf shoes in a number of key areas: outsoles – durability and traction; insole comfort related to fit and feel AKA athletic last; and, materials related to endurance and flexibility. GolfDigest.com and the websites of the manufacturers listed below highlight the following features:

Golf Balls

Golfers playing for fun deserve every advantage, aid, and inch afforded to them without violating the rules of the game. Golf balls are one of those advantages. Just like golf clubs, golf balls must fit the golfer, and as with clubs, a player's task is to match the ball that best complements his or her specific swing and style of play.

Golf balls, although not inexpensive, are affordable enough to allow a degree of experimentation. As they do with clubs, players should try different brands and types of balls before settling on one. Golfers must match their golf ball not only to their swings, but also to their golf clubs. While doing so requires a bit of study and effort, the dividends it pays in better scores and shots can transform a round of golf from "a good walk spoiled into a day in paradise".

Ball Type

  • Distance Golf Balls - A ball designed to react quickly off the clubface for maximum speed, which results in overall distance. Distance balls are often two-piece designs with cores designed for maximum velocity off the clubface. Try our Nike Power Long Golf Ball.

  • Spin Control Golf Balls - A ball designed to reduce spin and help manage hook or slice tendencies. Golfers who are seeking to reduce hooks and slices may seek a low-spin golf ball. See our Top-Flite D2 Strait Golf Balls.

  • Total Performance Golf Balls - A ball intended to create the best balance of spin, distance and control. Total performance balls are often multilayer, multi-construction golf balls. Total performance balls are preferred by better players. Browse our Wilson Smartcore golf balls.

Construction

  • Two-Piece Golf Balls feature dual construction made up of a large solid inner core (that generates excellent distance) surrounded by a high restitution outer cover. This enables maximum energy transfer to the ball at impact. See our Precept MC Lady Golf Balls.

  • Multi-Layer Golf Balls are typically three or four layers in which the core is wrapped in one or two mantle layers under an outer cover. Three-piece and four-piece golf balls are a good match for golfers with moderate to high clubhead speeds who want distance and feel. The TaylorMade TP Black Golf Ball is an excellent choice.

Cover

  • Surlyn Cover Golf Balls: Surlyn is an extremely durable, but slightly harder cover material. Surlyn withstands nicks and cuts better but offers less feel. Try our MaxFli NOODLE ICE golf balls.

  • Urethane Cover Golf Balls: Typically softer and offers greater feel and control over the ball, from the golfer's aspect. Urethane covers are usually found on multi-layer balls and are typically found in total performance golf balls. Browse our Titleist PRO V 1 golf balls.
